ONE
FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST (Bolton
Little Theatre) |
|
|
Saturday 3rd to Saturday 10th May 2008 - 7.30pm |
|
You will remember the film One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s
Nest by the mesmeric performance of Jack Nicolson.
This play is rarely produced as few companies
have the resources to handle its scale. However,
we at BLT have assembled an extensive cast and
the set will be one of the largest ever constructed
on our stage. John O’Connell embraces the
challenging role of criminal McMurphy, (for which
he won a GMDF award for Best Actor) and Stephanie
Shipley (last seen at BLT in Death and the Maiden,
also directed by Barry Hall) plays the ice-cruel
Nurse Ratched. The battle for power between the
anarchist and the control freak is always fascinating
and its location in a mental institution, locking
in a criminal pretending to be mad with the supposed
sanity of authority, heightens the struggle and
makes it even more dangerous. The opposed assembly
of asylum inmates, patients and nurses echoes
the focal struggle and our actors have been allowed
to experiment, under the innovative direction
of Barry Hall, who also directed one of our earlier
box office successes, Little Shop of Horrors.
There is no performance on Sunday 4th.
Ticket prices - £7 (Saturday to Thursday),
£8 (Friday and final Saturday)

BLITHE
SPIRIT at Daveyhulme
Methodist Hall, Flixton |
|
|
Wednesday 11th to Saturday 14th June 2008 - 7.30pm |
|
Canterbury Players - The smash
comedy hit of the London and Broadway stages.
The ingenious plot tells how novelist Charles
Condomine invites into his placid country home
an eccentric, breezy lady medium in order to learn
the language of the occult. Little does Charles
or his lovely second wife, Ruth, dream that the
séance staged by the medium will summon
back Charles' first wife, now "passed over"
for seven years. But the lady from beyond, still
handsome, still mischievous, appears and torments
Charles by reminding him of their days and nights
together. Only Charles can see or hear her. A
floating vase, handed to her out of thin air,
finally convinces Ruth that Charles is not losing
his mind that his first wife is indeed in the
room. The first wife has a ghostly plot in mind:
if she can get Charles into an automobile accident
and make a ghost of him, life in the spirit world
will have more appeal for her. Mistakes occur,
however, and it is Ruth who takes the fatal automobile
ride and passes on only to return with the first
wife to plague the utterly bewildered astral bigamist!
How Charles manages to extricate himself from
these two very blithe spirits makes an hilarious
conclusion to this very unusual farce. Hilariously
funny, brilliant, clever and about as cockeyed
as a play can be. Ticket prices - £6
for adults, £3 for children.
