Following
the massive success of Angels with Manky
Faces in 2009, Manchester's MaD Theatre
Company are proud to announce that they
will be touring with their forthcoming production,
Thai Brides and Teacakes in Summer-Autumn
2010. Thai Brides and Teacakes is a satirical
commentary on the changing ethnic composition
of modern Britain and is the latest example
of this award-winning theatre company’s
unique brand of ‘off the wall’
story telling. It is four years to the day
that bakery owners, Ma and Madeira were
married in North Manchester’s first
same sex civil partnership, and they want
a very special gift ~ a baby. After being
unsuccessful in their attempt to adopt a
Vietnamese orphan, their attentions have
turned to the local men as potential sperm
donors. Early candidates proved to be something
of a let down until the drop-dead gorgeous,
and highly charismatic politician, Richard
“Dickie” Moseley sweeps into
town. However, all is not how it appears
~ not just for the two prospective mums,
but for the whole community, as Dickie’s
extreme right-wing policies spell disaster.
The devastated Mancunians look for a saviour
and it appears in the unlikely form of Fred
the builder’s part time lap dancing
Thai bride. Thai Brides and Teacakes isn’t
a conventional theatre production. As with
all MaD productions, it is multi-media ~
aimed at a wide audience ~ for people who
might like to go to the match; or watch
bands; or simply people who generally appreciate
modern culture. This production will feature
music, as well as cameo performances from
some of Manchester’s familiar faces,
plus one or two surprise guests.

Sarah was awarded Best Newcomer at the If.Comedy

After
an extremely busy 2009 supporting Rob Brydon
on his sold out UK tour and a critically
acclaimed performance on The Royal Variety
Show Hal Cruttenden is one of the UK’s
fastest rising comedy stars and he is here
to present his own unique comic vision.
He’s angry … but not sure why!
“A delightful surprise… warm-hearted,
quick- witted observations about being a
camp, middle class heterosexual.”
The Daily Telegraph “Go and see Hal
Cruttenden, he’s got something to
say and he’ll make you laugh; a lot.”
The Daily Mirror **** “Hugely talented”
The Times ‘I've been reviewing stand-up
for years, and believe me this is as good
as it gets.’ Channel 4.com

"Sheffield's
finest synthesizer player and twaddle
talker" (Daily Telegraph) decides
it's time to instruct the Nation
in moral matters. Well, he would
have done - had nextdoor neighbour
and sole agent, Ken Worthington
not mistyped the show's title, turning
"morals" into "more
rolls" John's reaction to this
mishap is philosophical. At least
now his new show can consider -
not just the Nation's moral decline
- but the vast range of exotic breads
appearing in the high street, as
the humble roll fades into obscurity.
Paninis, ciabattas, pittas, plus
the peshwari naan which John recently
enjoyed a bite of ("It absolutely
blew me away"), inspiring his
exciting new ballad "How's
your nan?" "How's your
nan? How's your nan?" is more
pressing a question than finding
out about the state of an unleavened
bread - that's what i said "How's
your nan? How's your nan?"
Better find out while you can. Go
and see her before you hear she's
dead! Also, in "Get the Volvo,Val",
John will re-examine the tragic
"moral" tale of Eric Blackburn
("no relation to the DJ")
who crashed his hang glider 15 years
ago on the Derbyshire moors. As
well as these and other new songs,
expect old favourites like "2
Margarines", "Eggs and
Gammon", and "I Can't
Go Back To Savoury Now" hammered
out on John's trusty Yamaha keyboard.
Also, Special Guests - the concreter
from Goole, Dave Tordoff, ("His
ignorance is comical bliss"
) and misanthropic Midlands media
lecturer, Brian Appleton. (An inspired
creation.. Spinal tap, watch your
back!") John Shuttleworth (AKA
actor/small island lover, Graham
Fellows) was recently heard on BBC
Radio 4 in series 5 of The Shuttleworths
which was twice made "Pick
of the Week". His latest film,
Southern Softies is screening on
Sky Arts this Summer and is now
available on DVD. «
