Hallé & Anna Prohaska - Mahler's First Symphony

theatre

Now a firm favourite with Hallé audiences, conductor Jonathan Bloxham stands in for Maxime Pascal, who can no longer attend.

"A web of sound that delights and fascinates the ear", was The Times verdict of Thomas Adés "These Premises Are Alarmed", a fizzing curtain-raiser and a Hallé commission for the celebratory opening of The Bridgewater Hall when he was the orchestra’s Composer in Residence.

Berg’s stunning music drawn from his opera, Lulu, is all but a symphony in name, including at its heart the song of the enigmatic protagonist herself, as much a victim as femme fatale, which will be sung by International Classical Music Awards winning Austrain soprano Anna Prohaska.

From the previous generation of Viennese masters, Mahler’s First Symphony reflects his vision of a symphony embracing the world: from the sounds of nature and peasant dances, to folksongs, military and hunting calls and a funeral march.

Please note: Maxime Pascal and Vera-Lotte Boecker are no longer able to attend this concert.
