Hallé & Boris Giltburg - Lutoslawski's Concerto for Orchestra

French-born Alexandre Bloch assumed the position of Music Director of Orchestre National de Lille at the start of the 2016/17 season. From 2015–2021, he was also Principal Guest Conductor of Düsseldorfer Symphoniker. Tonight he conducts Manchester's oldest orchestra.
Lauded across the globe for being an insightful and compelling performer, Boris Giltburg takes to the stage for Chopin’s astounding Second Piano Concerto. Written by a composer still in education, and in the same year as his First Piano Concerto, the influence of earlier composers is reflected in this astonishing work.
To start, Debussy’s ground-breaking, sensuous evocation of Mallarmé’s poem, Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, which Pierre Boulez described as the moment when "modern music was awakened".
Bloch concludes the concert with Lutosławski’s Concerto for Orchestra, a brilliant showcase for all the players laced with folk melodies and rhythms
