RNCM Brand New Orchestra - Liaison
As part of Made in Manchester - a three-day festival celebrating the amazing breadth of new music created at the RNCM by staff and students, past and present - the college's innovative Brand New Orchestra takes to the stage to perform new orchestral works by our composition students alongside a performance of Liaison, a tone poem for orchestra, written by former Head of Composition and Contemporary Music, Anthony Gilbert.
Reflecting on his half-century association with the RNCM, Liaison portrays notions of friendships and bonding in a playful structure that resists ideas of conflict and relishes in musical thoughts of discussion and reflection.
Lasting 11 minutes, Anthony dedicated this work to long-standing friend, colleague, and conductor Timonthy Reynish MBE and fittingly chose the RNCM’s 50th anniversary year for its world première.
