Thursday Lunchtimes: Enescu String Octet

Bringing you the best of small ensemble music as students, staff and visiting artists perform side-by-side in this short and sweet concert series.Students from our School of Strings join members of our staff for this afternoon?s performance of George Enescu?s String Octet in C major Op 7. Enescu, a child prodigy and virtuoso violinist, completed his octet in 1900 between the ages of 18 and 19 years old. This epic work is deeply romantic in style while making full use of layered textures, complex counterpoint, and rich harmonies. It is by no means an easy piece to perform. In fact, it received a delayed premi?re after Enescu originally offered it to violinist and conductor ?douard Colonne who deemed it too risky to perform after five rehearsals. But more than 100 years on, it is widely regarded as a masterpiece, taking listeners on an exciting musical journey.George Enescu String Octet in C major Op 7Magnus Johnston violinAlex Mitchell violaPetr Prause cellowith Students from the RNCM School of StringsTickets:?2.50 (Under 26s and Students)?5 (Full)This concert will end at approximately 1.55pm
