FTE/U18s Free This programme features the charming tale of Barbar the little elephant ?? a composition for narrator and piano by?Francis Poulenc, based on the children?s tale Histoire de Babar and written between 1940-1945. Amidst Rues and Roses?presents a programme that at its core is a celebration of Lithuanian musical traditions. It will blend works by composers from Lauryna?s beloved homeland of Lithuania, as well as a number of works by composers from her currently adopted home of England.??All of the works that emanate from England have been in some way inspired by Lithuanian music traditions.? The Rue is the national flower of Lithuania, and the Rose is that for England ? each flower possesses their own powerful symbolisms. This program will seek to immerse the audience in a bouquet of breath-taking soundscapes and stories.??It will range from?the astonishing imagery of the composer and?painter Mikalojus Konstantinas Ciurlionis (1875-1911) and encapsulate the work of many remarkable contemporary Lithuanian and English composers.?I am delighted to be able to present the world premiere performance of a work especially composed for me by Sadie Harrison as well as being able to give the UK premiere of a work by Raminta?Serksnyte.?
