The China Disabled People's Performing Art Troupe (CDPPAT) was formed in 1987, and comprises of 88 performers, which includes 55 performers with hearing impairments, 28 performers with visual impairments and 5 performers with physical disabilities. The UK tour troupe will comprise of 30 performers plus additional support staff. The troupe conveys the positive message that disability is no obstacle to reaching your dreams. The spirit of the dancers creates a magnificent energy to its audiences around the world. My Dream goes beyond the boundaries of language or nationhood to bring spiritual joy to all. Their signature piece is the incomparable "one thousand hands Bodhisattva" featuring twenty-one hearing impaired dancers. Truly breathtaking images are created as the dancers produce perfectly timed and choreographed movements. Generating rave reviews it has been showcased in over 40 countries on five continents and the 2008 tour will be the first time this masterpiece of dance will be performed in the United Kingdom. The show that will tour the UK has been choreographed by the internationally acclaimed artist, Zhang Jigang, who is responsible for the creation of more than 300 large-scale productions in over 60 countries and is currently developing and directing the 2008 Summer Olympics Opening and Closing Ceremonies. The Chinese in Britain Forum (CiBF) is a registered charity that works with and on behalf of the Chinese community in the United Kingdom promoting equality of opportunity, active citizenship and social cohesion. Glitz, Blitz and 70's Hitz is a spectacular celebration of the best of British glam rock with three classic bands of the era. On one amazing bill Showaddywaddy, Sweet and The Rubettes will be putting on a sensational show and transporting you back to the very best of seventies glam rock. With their stylish rebirth of the 50’s Rock N’ Roll, Showaddywaddy became one of the biggest groups of the 70s and dominated the British charts. After their first release “Hey Rock and Roll” shot to no.2, they went on to spend an impressive 209 weeks in the chart’s top 40s. Ten single releases were top ten, including the smash no. 1 “Under the Moon of Love”. They are now celebrating over 30 years in the business. Joining Showaddywaddy on this spectacular bill is one of the biggest glam-rock bands of the era, Sweet. Sweet are the quintessential 70’s glam rock band, who brought androgynous looks and crunching guitar pop to the masses. Including their smash no.1 “Blockbuster”, they had 17 charting hits and spent over three years in the charts alone. Completing this classic bill, we present The Rubettes. The Rubettes first made No.1 in 1974 with their very first single 'Sugar Baby Love' and after five weeks at the coveted No.1 spot in the they repeated their success throughout the world. 'Sugar Baby Love' sold eight million copies after which the Rubettes went on to have a further 15 International Hits establishing themselves, with their flamboyant Gatsby appearance, as one of the icons of the 70's Glam Rock era. Leonard Cohen - World Tour 2008 comes to the Manchester Opera House on Tuesday 17th to Friday 20th June 2008. The 1900-capacity Opera House will be the only theatre venue on the UK leg of his world tour, which also includes Glastonbury Festival. Singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen is to play his first live shows for 15 years. The 73-year-old will embark on a world tour this summer. Cohen is arguably the greatest singer songwriter of modern times. At his induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, he was recognized by Lou Reed as "without question one of the most important and influential songwriters of our time, a figure whose body of work achieves greater mystery and depth as time goes on."   (back to top)
