DANIEL
KITSON (The
Theatre) |
|
| Sunday
18th May 2008 - 7.30pm |
| A
brand new show from award-winning Daniel Kitson,
on his third visit to the Royal Exchange. The
world is a saddening mess, of unfathomable complexity
and the simplest cruelty. and yet, rather than
raging or weeping, most of us still manage to
eat snacks, do crosswords and occasionally wash.
But what if, what if we heave our compassion
from wherever its buried and with courage enough
to seem naïve or underinformed or oblivious
to futility, we reach for something better.
Something more engaged, more humane and less
snack based. An angry, frustrated and beautiul
new show about wanting the world to change but
not doing enough to change it.

ETHICS OF PROGRESS (The

| Presented
by Unlimited Theatre. A mind melting, jargon free,
whistle stop tour of leading edge Quantum Physics.

avoiding jargon and explaining in a straightforward
terms the concepts of Superposition, Wave Particle
Duality, Quantum Entanglemement, and Teleportation,
The Ethics of Progress pushes theoretical physics
into real life situations, and imagines the world
as it might be in the not too distant future.

DR
KORCZAK'S EXAMPLE (The
Studio) |
|
| Wednesday
4th to Saturday 21st June 2008 |
| Based
on a true story, DR KORCZAK'S EXAMPLE recounts
the remarkable last days of Janusz Korczak,
a children's author and paediatrician who founded
a Jewish Orphanage in the shadow of the Warsaw
Ghetto. Dr.Korczak created a radical environment
for the young people in his care; a democratic
utopia where children had rights and were treated
as equals. As the summer of 1942 advances, the
days of the Ghetto and the orphanage are numbered,
pushing Korczak's pacifist ideals to the limit.
But the doctor's principles are challenged not
only by the advancing Nazi regime but by the
arrival of Adzio, a young Jewish boy who believes
in fighting back. (back

| Tuesday
1st July to Saturday 9th August 2008 - 7.30pm |
| When
each member of an eccentric theatrical family
invites a guest to stay with them without telling
the other, the stage is set for a memorable
and madcap weekend in the country. Retired actress
Judith Bliss, her novelist husband David, and
their two self-indulgent children Simon and
Sorel are each looking forward to a weekend
in the country with a potential romantic attachment
of their choice. However, as each realises that
the other has invited a guest of their own,
and each couple treads on the others toes, the
weekend quickly descends into a mass of mishaps
and misunderstandings as The Bliss’s play
a game from which their hapless guests are desperate
to escape. One of the great comic creations
in the history of theatre, a weekend with The
Bliss’s proves to be unforgettable in
Noel Coward’s much-loved classic.

LOST
LETTERS (The
Studio) |
|
| Tuesday
22nd and Wednesday 23rd July 2008 |
| Presented
by Royal Exchange Education. The Royal Exchange
Community Partnerships programme creates theatre-based
projects in partnership with community groups
across Greater Manchester. The scheme is designed
to give participants real ownership of this building.
A major priority for the work is to reach people
who may not otherwise feel that theatre is for
them, and to bring together diverse groups and
individuals - a true reflection of the environment
in which the Royal Exchange exists. Lost Letters
is the latest outcome of our Community Partnerships
Scheme. (back
