A year ago, almost exactly to the day, Martha left the family home in search of a different life, leaving behind her husband Jonathan and their three grown-up children. On the day of Barney’s wedding, her children reflect on the past year, questioning what encouraged their mother to make this monumental decision.

Travelling back a year, we meet the family in a very different place. All under one roof for the first time in months, they reminisce about their younger lives. However, with the discovery of a three-decade-old box in the attic, Martha re-discovers her past self: a young, unmarried woman, mid-twenties, with big dreams of becoming a published poet living in perfect solace on the Orkney islands.

And as she re-kindles this ambition, she begins to redefine her future. But at what cost?
