A work-in-progress play exploring Jewish-Arab heritage, the expectations of womanhood and found family. Part of our Synagogue Scratch season. ?Hey Siri, is Syria in the EU?? Birdy, twenty years old, aimless but determined to travel, digs through her estranged family?s Jewish heritage in the hope of obtaining an EU passport. Instead, she unearths a family secret buried since 1930s Cairo. Lost Girl is a work-in-progress play, written and performed by Amy Lever. Join us to experience an exciting new piece of theatre, followed by a discussion between Amy and our Creative Producer, Elly, about the process of writing, links to the stories in the museum?s collection and Amy?s own family history. Waterside Arts, Creative Industries Trafford ABOUT AMY LEVER Amy Lever?is a northern Jewish writer/actor of Eastern European, Egyptian and Lebanese heritage. She is passionate about creating work that centres under-represented stories and human connection. Her debut play ?Life Before the Line? won the Cambridge University Edinburgh Fringe Award 2022 where it went on to receive critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, a transfer to the Cockpit theatre and is currently in development for a tour. Since then, she has been selected for the Warner Bros x Royal Exchange Writer?s Programme, and a script development scheme with Channel 4 and New Writing North. She has received both acting and writing commissions from Contact Theatre, HOME, MIF and Factory International. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW The age guidance for this event is 16+. The play contains strong language and mature adult themes. The doors to the museum will be open from 6PM on the day of the performance. The museum Cafe will be selling food as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Please note, that food and drinks cannot be taken into the synagogue space, so if you?d like to use the Caf? before the show, please allow yourself additional time. The performance will begin at 7pm and will be followed by a discussion between Amy and our Creative Producer, Elly. The event will finish at 8:15pm. Please note, that this event takes place at our historic synagogue with on-side seating. The synagogue will have seating areas for those with accessibility needs to enjoy the performance. We are located on Cheetham Hill Road, just 15 minutes? walk from Manchester?s Victoria train station and 30 minutes? walk from Manchester City Centre.
