Born in Bangor, Gwilym Simcock studied classical piano, French horn, and composition at Chetham's School, Manchester, where he was introduced to jazz by pianist and teacher Les Chisnall and bassist and teacher Steve Berry. He has gone on to become one of the most respected names in jazz.
Also a former student at Chetham's, Devon-born jazz saxophonist Emma Rawicz won Jazz Newcomer of the Year at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards 2022.
