Lea Salonga

Award-winning star of multiple Broadway musical and international singing sensation.

Chances are you’ve heard Lea Salonga sing, even if you don’t know you’ve heard Lea Salonga sing. The Philippine-born award-winning actress and singer is not only a hugely successful stage actress and multi-Platinum-selling recording artist, she was also the singing voices of two Disney princesses: Mulan, from the film of the same name, and Jasmine in Aladdin.

Born in Manilla, Salonga landed her first Gold record at the age of ten, going multi-Platinum with her self-titled second album when she was still a teenager. Following her huge success at home, she came to London in the late 80s to take on the role of Kim in Miss Saigon, before taking the role to Broadway in 1991, winning a Tony and an Olivier award in the process.

In 1992, Salonga was cast as the singing voice of Jasmine in Aladdin and the following year performed the Oscar-winning song A Whole New World at the Academy Awards. By the end of the decade, she’d played Eponine in Les Misérables on Broadway, sang in Mulan and released three more hugely successful albums.

Salonga continued to release solo records alongside stage performances through the next decade, including a return to Broadway in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Flower Drum Song and a tour of Asia in their production of Cinderella. In 2010, she sold out three weeks of shows at New York’s Café Carlyle, one of which was released as Lea Salonga: My Story So Far.

In 2015, Salonga starred alongside George Takei in Allegiance, a Broadway musical based on his experiences in an internment camp in Wyoming during WWII. Her recorded output continued apace, including Blurred Lines and the Philippine folk song collection Bahaghari: Rainbow in 2017 and live albums in 2019, with the Brigham Young University Chamber Orchestra, and 2020, with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

In September 2021, Salonga announced the Dream Again tour – named for her single of the same name – set for the UK in June 2022.
