Pride (15)

★★★★ Matthew Warchus's Pride is an impassioned and distinctly loveable movie about the miners' strike of 1984/1985 and the birth of progressive politics in this country, a film on the unfashionable subjects of empathy and solidarity. It is warm and witty, with terrific performances; Stephen Beresford's script is fast and funny and there's a rousing musical score from Chris Nightingale. ~ The Guardian.

Matthew Warchus’ rousing drama about two seemingly alien communities who form a surprising and ultimately triumphant partnership.
It’s the summer of 1984 – Margaret Thatcher is in power and the National Union of Mineworkers is on strike. At the Gay Pride March in London, a group of gay and lesbian activists decides to raise money to support the families of the striking miners. There is, however, a problem: the Union seems embarrassed to receive their support.
But the activists are not deterred. They decide to ignore the Union and go direct to the miners. After identifying a mining village in deepest Wales, they set off in a minibus to make their donation in person.
