Three Colours: Blue (15)
Polish director Krzysztof Kieślowski’s celebrated psychological drama Three Colours Trilogy returns to the big screen, newly restored in 4K. Each film draws its title and palette from a colour of the French flag and explores, in rich and diverse ways, one of central tenets of the national motto: liberty, equality and fraternity.
Representing the culmination of Kieślowski’s remarkable filmmaking output from the late-80s to the mid-90s, Three Colours remains a touchstone of modern European cinema.
Juliette Binoche, Benoît Régent, and Florence Pernel star in the first instalment from 1993, Blue, in which Julie has her world turned upside down when her husband and daughter are killed in a car crash. She sells their home and moves to a Parisian suburb, attempting to build a new life for herself. But her efforts to start afresh are dragged down by memories from the past and fear of the present.
French with English subtitles.
