'Light Up' Late

Celebrate the start of The University of Manchester’s 200th year with an evening of light, poetry and performances.
Join us to turn the January blues a dazzling purple as part of a stunning light trail along Oxford Road.
The Museum is hosting a special Late as part of ‘Light Up’, which will kick off The University of Manchester’s bicentenary celebrations on Wednesday 17 January.
Join us f0r an evening of music, poetry, performance and more. From 18:24 (to mark the University’s founding year), we’ll be lifting winter spirits with a pathway of light, illuminating iconic places and spaces on campus and beyond, in the University’s signature colour purple. Plus, our famous spider crab will be getting a disco makeover.
Our performances will include a chromesthesia concert from David McFarlane, turning sounds into light and motion. We’ll also have a reading of the bicentenary poem, tours of some of our best-loved collections and family workshops led by artist Daya Bhatti.
