Another dissection of middle-class life, Edward Yang’s satirical A Confucian Confusion, released in 1994, focuses on a group of 20-something youngsters navigating life in a modern-day Taipei of global brands and material aspirations.

The film shows the director working in a manner that fully reveals his sophisticated filmmaking style, one that enables the large cast of characters each to contribute to A Confucian Confusion’s overwhelming sense of a society unsure of what it stands for and where it might be going.
