James
One of Britain’s most enduring success stories, Manchester indie folk rock legends James have sold over 25 million records since their formation in 1982.
While they have always been worshipped in their home city, dating back to their folk orientated early days performing at the Haçienda in 1982 and selling-out two nights at the 10,000-capacity G-Mex in 1990, they achieved wider popularity following the Madchester period of the early 1990s, scoring major hits with "Sit Down", "Laid", "She's a Star", "Sometimes", and "Sound" among many more Top 40 singles.
Despite their prolonged success, scoring fourteen Top 10 albums along the way, incredibly it wasn't 2024 when they achieved their first no.1 original album; "Yummy" matching "The Best Of James" compilation, which had also topped the charts in 1998 on its way to being certified 3x Platinum.
James are: Tim Booth, Jim Glennie (from whom the band take its name), Saul Davies, Adrian Oxaal, David Baynton-Power, Mark Hunter, Andy Diagram, Chloe Alper, Deborah Knox-Hewson.
