Formed in 2009, the band Lawson – made up of vocalist Andy Brown, bassist Ryan Fletcher, guitarist Joel Peat and drummer Adam Pitts – got their name from a Liverpool-based surgeon. Dr David Lawson performed a life-saving operation on Brown soon after the lead singer had been diagnosed with a brain tumour.

The quartet broke through in 2012 with their debut album Chapman Square, which reached No.3 on the UK albums chart and spawned the singles When She Was Mine, Taking Over Me and Standing In The Dark.

The following year, Lawson released a deluxe version of that album with the addition of six new songs. Among them was Brokenhearted, their first collaboration featuring a verse from rapper B.o.B, and Juliet, which peaked at No.3 on the UK singles chart.

In 2016, Lawson’s second studio album Perspective arrived. It introduced a more progressive sound for the band along with elements of synth-pop. Three of the album’s songs – Money, Roads and Where My Love Goes – charted in the top 20.

However, shortly after its arrival, Lawson went on a four-year hiatus. In April 2020, they thrilled fans by releasing the single Lovers.

In March 2021, Lawson revealed their third album called CMD Z would arrive on 21 May 2021. To support it, they also announced an eight-date UK tour – their first in six years – for October and November 2021.

About the upcoming tour, Brown said, “We are so excited to get back out on the road!”
