Pioneering Black independent filmmaker Charles Burnett followed up his 1978 debut feature Killer of Sheep with My Brother?s Wedding in 1983. The film centres on the young and proudly working-class Pierce Mundy, who finds himself caught between family expectations and loyalty to a friend. Told with the deep humanism that is emblematic of Burnett?s work, My Brother?s Wedding provides an intimate window into early ?80s South Central LA, as well as a compassionate counterpoint to the ?hood? films that would later define South Central in the popular imagination. The film was originally released in a rough-cut form in 1983, and notoriously difficult to find until its first restoration and re-edit by Burnett in 2007. This latest restoration continues the effort to honour Burnett's artistic vision. ?
