Myanmar Diaries
Myanmar Diaries is a hybrid collection of work, made up of short films by ten young, anonymous Burmese filmmakers, combined with harrowing citizen journalism documenting the junta’s brutality, as well as courageous resistance to it.
The film shows how Myanmar goes from the military coup of 2021 to nation-wide protests and civil disobedience. Terrifying acts of repression follow, where thousands of peaceful protesters are imprisoned and murdered, leading to a growing popular revolt against the military junta.
Moving back and forth between documentary and fiction, Myanmar Diaries creates a seamless flow of storytelling in which the filmmakers find innovative ways to keep their protagonists anonymous.
This is an extremely urgent film in a time when Myanmar has almost disappeared from the news headlines around the world.
