For his 22nd feature, in 2021, veteran Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar returned to familiar themes of motherhood, memory and moral dilemmas.

In Parallel Mothers, he has created yet another compelling drama, featuring a standout performance from his long-term collaborator Penélope Cruz. 

Two women, and soon to be single mothers – Janis and Ana – meet in a hospital ward where they are waiting to give birth.

This chance encounter will create a close link between the two.
