The March Violets

The March Violets

Like their label mates Sisters of Mercy, with whom they were often compared, gothic post-punk band The March Violets came out of Leeds in the early 80’s.

Featuring film composer Tom Ashton and Manchester-based novelist, poet and singer Rosie Garland (also known as Rosie Lugosi), they released six indie singles, they were a constant presence in the UK indie charts, hitting the top spot with "Walk Into The Sun" and no.2 with "Snake Dance" and "Deep".

Appearing in John Hughes' 1987 coming of age movie "Some Kind of Wonderful", they split up not long after and it wasn't until 2007 that they reformed before.
