WU LYF

WU LYF

Described by Q magazine in 2011 as "Manchester's next great band" WU LYF (pronounced "Woo Life") - "World Unite Lucifer Youth Foundation" - they originally adopted a mysterious indentity, or as one critic put it, "an ability to maintain mystique at a time when everything is out in the open" with their social media, Wikipedia and Spotify listings deleted several times.

Recorded their music at St Peter's Church in Ancoats, Dutch magazine Kicking the Habit likened their sound to "Tom Waits in a church under the guidance of stoned garage".

Despite critical acclaim from the likes of NME, Pitchfork and Stereogum, their debut album "Go Tell Fire to the Mountain", only reached no.98 in the UK charts, and lead singer Ellery James Roberts would depart the band not long after in 2012.

The remaining WU LYF members continued on as Los Porcos, a former side-project, while bassist Tom McClung created a solo project called Francis Lung. Guitarist Evans Kati and drummer Joe Manning formed Dream Lovers.

Ellery James Roberts would reappear with his Dutch artist girlfriend Ebony Hoorn to form LUH (Lost Under Heaven) before a reunion was announced for 2025, with their second album scheduled for 2026.
