Film Course: French New Wave

Coinciding with the release of the release of Nouvelle Vague (Richard Linklater 2025) this course will offer an overview of the French New Wave introducing key films and actors who emerged at the end of the 1950s, offering some insights into the critical and film industry changes underlining the arrival of a new generation of directors and technicians. The course will also contextualise the New Wave from cultural and gender perspectives. It will encourage participants to reflect on the legacy of the New Wave and its place in the history of cinema today. Participants will see A bout de souffle (Godard 1960) and Cl?o de 5 ? 7 (Varda 1962) as part of the scheduled course screenings. Participants will also have the opportunity to see more films in the short French New Wave season shown at HOME. No prior knowledge is required.? The course runs from 14th Jan to 18th Mar 2026.
