Gawain Glenton - The Myth of Venice: 16th-Century Music for Cornetto & Keyboard

Gawain Glenton - The Myth of Venice: 16th-Century Music for Cornetto & Keyboard

Free lunchtime concert.

The appointment of Willaert at San Marco in 1527 heralded the emergence of Venice as a cultural super-power.

This recital by Basel-educated, Manchester-based specialist cornetto player Gawain Glenton explores the composers who built the 'myth of Venice' in sound.

“Glenton’s own diminutions are gently and lightly patted into the larger musical line. And together with Wollston’s calm, the whole thing sways like a dance made of chiffon.” Gramophone, Jan 2022

The Thursday lunchtime concerts are part of the Walter Carroll Lunchtime Concert Series, which is supported by the Ida Carroll Trust.

They provide a wide-ranging programme to suit all tastes and are an ideal opportunity to enjoy great music performed by outstanding musicians. There’s no need to book – the concerts are free, and you can just turn up on the day!
