Much Ado About Nothing (by Royal Exchange Theatre)
Starring Beverley Knight MBE. Olivier award winning West End actor and queen of British soul music, Michael Buffong transports Shakespeare to the island of Trinidad just after the end of the Second World War; a society on the cusp of transformation.
Witty, wicked and wonderfully warm.
You know the story. You know the writer. But it’s never felt like this before.
Sharp tongues, short tempers and salacious gossip sparkle on this tropical island. Beverley Knight shines as Beatrice. And every seat in the theatre basks in the heat of the Caribbean sun, music, spirit and eternal optimism.
Exploring timeless themes in different contexts brings them to life in a whole new light. Love at the mercy of miscommunication and rumour, the pain of intimate betrayal, and the ultimate triumph of truth.
Directed by Michael Buffong. Multi-award-winning theatre and TV director with a particular passion for reimagining the classics.
Written by William Shakespeare. No introduction needed.
A co-production between the Royal Exchange Theatre Company and Talawa Theatre Company. The most recognisable Black British theatre company, with 40 years of pioneering work.
