We chatted to Richard Hurst who is currently playing the role of Miss Trunchbull in the touring production of Matilda. The family musical takes centre stage at the Palace Theatre in Manchester on Thursday 26th March - Saturday 25th April 2026. Karen Ryder asks the questions.
Matilda The Musical, the multi-award winning musical from the Royal Shakespeare Company, inspired by the beloved book by Roald Dahl, is the winner of over 100 global awards, including 24 for Best Musical, the ‘unique and unforgettable’ (Rolling Stone) global phenomenon.
Since opening at the Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon in 2010, Matilda has delighted over 12 million audiences worldwide following performances in 100 cities across 17 countries worldwide.
With book by Dennis Kelly, music and lyrics by Tim Minchin and directed by Matthew Warchus, Matilda is the story of an extraordinary little girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny.
