MANCHESTER AUDITIONS FOR BYMT
Manchester auditions for British Youth Music Theatre are taking place at Hope Mill Theatre on Sunday 8th February 2026! Two sessions will be available from 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm. These are in-person auditions for young performers aged 11-21 to take part in the BYMT 2026 Season of new music theatre. Audition places must be booked in advance and can be done so here.
BYMT is the UK’s leading commissioner of new music theatre and successful auditionees will be invited to join BYMT’s 2026 Young Company. This will see them take part in a two-week residential course, due to take place during the Easter or Summer holidays, located in Manchester, Hull, Birmingham, London, or Exeter. These residential courses offer the opportunity to collaborate with professional directors, writers, composers, and choreographers, culminating in the premiere of a brand-new musical. The course concludes with a performance of the new musical in a professional theatre!
The BYMT auditions in Manchester will be three-hour group workshops where participants explore acting, singing, and movement as part of an ensemble. All material will be taught and learnt on the day, so there is no audition preparation needed, and no prior experience required. BYMT instead focus on passion, enthusiasm, energy, and seeks participants who work well collaboratively.
BYMT has a strong track record within the North-West. Their latest new musical Worn Out premiered at Lowry in summer 2025 to great acclaim. With a unique place in the theatre world of producing only new and original work, they also excel in providing young performers the opportunity to be involved in the creation of our musicals of the future. To be able to do this alongside professional creative teams is an opportunity not to be missed!
BYMT Chief Executive and Creative Director, Emily Gray said: “BYMT auditions are supportive, inclusive and welcoming - we want young people to feel this is a place where they belong and where their voices matter.”
Previous Manchester auditionee and BYMT participant Ash Rodgers said: “BYMT was such a good experience for me for developing my musical theatre skills. The auditions are always a fun and relaxed environment which helps us thrive and bring our best to the room. I'd highly recommend BYMT to all young performers.”
